Board approves amendment to jail medical contract to implement CalAIM, expand MAT services

Assistant Sheriff Rob Blim and Lieutenant Ben Mendoza asked the board to approve the fourth amendment to the county's contract with California Forensic Medical Group (Wellpath/CFMG) to add up to $309,720 for CalAIM implementation and MAT expansion as part of a fiscal-year 2026–27 amendment. The contract amendment was presented as part of a larger contract not to exceed $6,880,798.18.
Blim told the board CalAIM implementation is a state mandate intended to ensure continuity of behavioral-health services and pre-release medical care for eligible justice-involved individuals, and that services provided under CalAIM will be billable and potentially reimbursable to the county. The requested increase was described as funded by CalAIM-related grants and not expected to impact the county general fund.
"This is to support the implementation of CalAIM, which will go into effect October 1…CalAIM will include MAT or medication-assisted treatment expansion and medical coding and billing services," Blim said. (Assistant Sheriff Rob Blim.)
After no substantive public comment, the board approved the amendment by roll call.
What's next: Staff said the contract amendment will be implemented for FY 2026–27 and the county will continue to pursue reimbursements tied to CalAIM services.
