Lyme commission settles Green-Up Day scheduling; CommunityCare coordinators report on coordination efforts

The Lyme Conservation Commission addressed outreach items on Feb. 9, resolving a potential scheduling change for the 2026 Green-Up Day and receiving a recap of a CommunityCare coordinators meeting.
Chair Blake Allison said Community Care initially informed him it wanted to change the traditional first-Saturday-in-May date for Green-Up Day; after follow-up, Community Care confirmed the proposed new date would not work either and the scheduling conflict was resolved, leaving the traditional timing under the commission’s control.
Lin Brown reported on the CommunityCare-of-Lyme coordinators meeting, saying about 20 people attended. She described the meeting’s intent to improve communication across groups providing services in town and said she presented a 'wish list' that was well received, including distributing maps of town properties in new-resident welcome packets and seeking assistance to clear and maintain the new accessible path at the Chaffee Wildlife Sanctuary. Planning for events around July 4, the U.S. 250th anniversary, has not yet been organized.
Commissioners discussed potential volunteer efforts such as installing nesting boxes and continuing coordination with Planning Board representatives at the next CommunityCare lunch.
