Local land trust details two conservation easements near Indian Steps and Codorus Creek

Kenny said the first property is a roughly 25‑acre, predominantly wooded parcel in Lower Chanceford adjacent to the Indian Steps Museum and owned by the Conservation Society of York County; the land includes walking trails and supports rare native plants. The second is a 101.8‑acre parcel in Springfield Township owned by Matthew and Michaela Ciceranza. Kenny said that property adjoins a York County Agricultural Preservation Board easement and protects approximately 3,500 feet of a tributary to the South Branch of the Codorus Creek; the land contains both prime farmland and wooded areas and is scenically visible from LaRue and South Roads.
Kenny said the Ciceranza property has seen active conservation work, including about 15 acres of stream‑corridor plantings in partnership with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, and that the parcel connects to other preserved land held by local conservancies and county parks. He invited questions and thanked the board for county support of land‑preservation work.
The presentation was informational and no formal county approval or vote on these specific easements was recorded at the meeting. The chair later reminded the public that the county’s open land preservation and open space grant program — including Marcellus Shale funding opportunities — has applications open through Sept. 30.
