Newbury Conservation Commission names Mary Rimmer chair as Bob Connors steps down

Bob Connors, who presided over the Newbury Conservation Commission for four years, announced he will step down as chair because frequent travel will regularly take him out of state and abroad. "I'm going to be stepping down as chair," Connors said, noting he plans extensive travel that will cause recurring absences.
The commission moved quickly to reorganize. Connors nominated Mary Rimmer for chair and Mick Brown for vice chair; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. At the close of the vote Connors thanked members and staff for their service and said the board is collegial and effective.
Rimmer, an experienced commission member who serves as the commission's legal/permit resource in discussions, accepted the role; Mick Brown said he welcomed the chance to learn from Rimmer and to step into a vice-chair role. Mason Ferrick, the commission's conservation agent, was cited by Connors as instrumental in running efficient meetings and was asked to take a larger role supporting the new leadership.
The reorganization takes effect immediately. The commission did not change any pending permit decisions during the reorganization vote. The board adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
