County board honors Dr. Joanne Ruth McGee for 25 years in court services

The Stephenson County Board on July 9 recognized Dr. Joanne Ruth McGee for 25 years of service to the county’s probation and court services departments.
Chair praised McGee’s career — which includes an undergraduate degree in interpersonal public communication, work as a victim systems legal advocate, time as an addictions counselor and service as a probation officer — and noted that McGee accepted the director of court services position on June 23, 2022, making her the first African American woman to hold that post in the department.
“Give thanks in everything,” Dr. McGee said, opening her remarks with a religious reflection. She thanked colleagues, family and mentors and said she remains committed to serving the community and building on her work in probation and court services.
After brief remarks the board presented McGee with a small token of appreciation; the presentation concluded with brief photos and well-wishes from members. The recognition was placed on the agenda as an official acknowledgement; there was no separate policy action attached to the item.
