United Airlines launches service to Hilton Head Island; local leaders hail economic boost

John Rembold, the Hilton Head Island Airports director, opened the ceremony and introduced Noelle DeMar of United Airlines, who said the carrier was “absolutely thrilled” to add Hilton Head and to connect the island to United’s hubs in Washington, Chicago and Newark. Dion Berry, representing Washington Dulles International Airport, described Dulles as a growing hub that will offer Hilton Head passengers expanded connections.
Mayor John McCann and County Council Chairman Stu Rodman welcomed the new service and noted the anticipated local economic benefits, including additional visitors and corporate travel. Rodman said area airlines’ combined expansions could bring “probably 100,000 additional people” to the area, generating tourism and hospitality business.
Airport director Rembold and local Chamber and civic leaders emphasized the community role in making the route possible and thanked airline, airport and town partners. The event included remarks from the Chamber of Commerce and a ribbon cutting with local officials.
The new route offers residents and visitors a direct connection to a major East Coast hub; airline representatives said that the service will also link Hilton Head to United’s broader network and partner carriers. The airport and town will continue to promote the service to encourage early adoption by leisure and business travelers.
Next step: United will operate the announced service; local officials and airport staff said they will continue community outreach and marketing to support route success.
