"I just got a quote for it usually is about 12 dozen baseballs for the season, which is about $700," a recreation staff member said, and added that using two umpires per game at $50 per umpire would add roughly $2,800 to the season cost. Staff estimated those two items are the largest expenses and said the break-even point for a five-team league would be about $3,500, implying a team fee near $700 and an effective individual cost near $60 if teams carry about 12 players.
The board discussed liability and roster management. Staff said participants sign liability waivers and the county does not provide insurance for adult-league play. Board members noted the need for written details before adopting any changes.
Chair asked staff to put the proposal and comparative numbers in writing for the board's January meeting so members can review precise costs and potential impacts on participation before any action.
