Legion Park bathrooms near opening; new dock installation and trail repairs underway; commission plans pavilion movie

Chairman Joe Gallus told the commission the Legion Park bathrooms were expected to open during the first week of May pending final plumbing inspection and that the vendor would install a new dock at that time. Commissioners complimented the appearance of the new dock and bathroom area.
Staff reported that dead trees at Railroad Park and Legion Park had been removed, stumps ground, and turf restoration work under way. The city purchased a stump-grinder attachment for the Ventrac and had used it successfully on numerous stumps. Gallus said approximately 1,800 feet of trail work valued at more than $80,000 would be completed, focusing on Woodland and Summerfield areas where most trail issues exist. Staff were still awaiting a bid for steel wainscoting or similar siding repairs at the Legion Park building.
On event planning, Commissioner Lexxy Nubbe reported outdoor screen rental at approximately $1,700 and movie licensing costs up to about $565 plus roughly $30 for a DVD if needed. Commissioners favored trying Movie in the Park inside the Legion Park pavilion this year (to reduce mosquito issues and allow an earlier start around 7:00 PM) and asked staff to circulate a public survey with film options.
