Commission revisits disc golf and rules out Spring Meadow for archery, identifies Carrigan Meadows as feasible site

The Parks Commission revisited prior conversations about adding an archery course and whether disc golf could be modified or relocated to accommodate both uses. Chairman Joe Gallus said Spring Meadow was rejected for archery because arrows could travel toward residential backyards despite proposed berms and elevation changes.
Gallus and staff identified Carrigan Meadows as the only feasible archery site discussed at the meeting. Commissioners noted the existing Carrigan Meadows disc golf course is inexpensive to move and that the park’s mix of open land and wooded areas could support a revised disc golf layout and a small archery course. Commissioners raised concerns about access, visibility and safe road crossings for neighborhood children if disc golf were moved to Spring Meadow.
Staff referenced a UDisc usage report in the meeting packet showing meaningful use of the existing Carrigan Meadows disc golf course. Commissioners asked staff to review maps and layouts at a future meeting to visualize possible co‑location or relocation options.
