Board approves payroll calendars, school-calendar tweaks, graduation time change and extracurricular schedules

The board approved payroll calendars for multiple staff groups for 2026–27, amended the 26–27 traditional school calendar (Dec. 21 non-calendar; Dec. 22 optional planning; Dec. 23 vacation; June 9 optional planning), shifted Edge Academy graduation to 10:30 a.m. on May 20, 2027, and approved fall/winter extracurricular activities.
At its special meeting the Edgecombe County Board of Education approved several administrative items: payroll calendars for bus staff, ISS, child nutrition and 9/10/11/12-month employees for 2026–27; amendments to the traditional school calendar; a revised Edge Academy graduation start time; and extracurricular activities for the fall and winter seasons.
Staff explained the calendar adjustments and said the changes are logistical cleanups to improve schedule flow. One board member asked that staff ensure all affected employees are notified before any payroll-date changes take effect; staff acknowledged that communication would occur and noted that calendar and payroll presentation formats will be revised in the future to provide more breakdowns.
The board approved the items by voice vote. Staff will finalize calendar posting, update payroll communications, and coordinate graduation logistics with Edgecombe Community College where the ceremonies will be held.
