Commission backs state‑aligned change to ag and forestal advisory committee membership

Following House Bill 292 (effective March 2026), the Rockbridge County Planning Commission unanimously recommended a zoning text amendment to allow a representative from the commissioner of revenue’s office to serve on the agricultural and forestal districts advisory committee instead of requiring the commissioner personally.
The Planning Commission voted July 8 to recommend that the Board of Supervisors amend Rockbridge County Code (chapter 30, article 6, section 30‑47(f)) to align membership requirements for the agricultural and forestal districts advisory committee with House Bill 292, enacted March 14, 2026.
Staff explained HB 292 modifies state law to permit a representative from the commissioner of revenue’s office to fulfill the membership requirement rather than requiring the commissioner personally. “It just gives a little bit more flexibility,” staff said, noting the proposed text was included in the commission’s agenda packet.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. After brief discussion and confirmation that the language was consistent with the new state statute, a motion to recommend approval moved, was seconded and carried unanimously. The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final action and scheduling of a public hearing.
