Richland County to explore broadcasting meetings and sets timeline for 2027 budget work

Auditor/Administrator Sandy Fossum told commissioners May 5 that a citizen requested commission meetings be made available to the public through Microsoft Teams or by video recording. Commissioners Rollie Ehlert and Perry Miller supported the idea and asked Fossum to meet with IT to determine whether additional equipment would be needed and how to distribute meeting-join options with agendas.
Fossum also discussed changes to the preliminary budget process and asked for direction on salary guidance for department heads. She said she will present the preliminary 2027 budget at the July 21 budget meeting and will schedule any department heads the board wishes to question for the Aug. 4 commission meeting.
Fossum reminded the board that campaign finance disclosure forms are due May 8 and reported the Auditor's Office had fulfilled 121 absentee ballot requests since ballots became available April 30. The board did not take immediate action beyond directing Fossum to consult IT and return with options for enabling public access.
