County Road 1 reconstruction underway; section closed to through traffic

Jesse Sedler of the Richland County Highway Department told commissioners May 5 that reconstruction of County Road 1 is underway. Sedler said crews have begun stripping ditches, the portion from County Road 16 to State Highway 13 is open to local traffic only, and a public service announcement about the official closure was expected to be released Friday.
Sedler said he anticipates the project will be complete sometime in August. He also reported the department purchased a 2021 semi-truck for its fleet and that one more summer hire remains to be filled; all other seasonal positions are staffed.
The board did not take separate action on the project at the meeting; Sedler framed the update as informational and noted the department will continue to post closures and detour information to county communications channels.
