At its regular meeting the Milan Area Schools Board of Education approved a slate of routine organizational and personnel actions.
Resolutions read by President Ferrell designated JPMorgan Chase, Fifth Third Bank, U.S. Bank, Michigan School District Liquid Asset Fund, Bank of New York Mellon, First Merchants Bank and MBIA Michigan as depositories for district funds for fiscal year 2026–27 and attached designated staff signatures to each account. The board also designated the superintendent or designee to post meeting notices and moved to retain Troon Law Firm, PC as the district’s legal counsel for the 2026–27 fiscal year, with authority for a one-year extension.
The board named Dr. Carrie Gutierrez and Cassie Pryor as voting delegates to the Michigan Association of School Boards and appointed Nasara Marais and Gabe Burdette as alternates; the board approved the organizational resolutions on a unanimous 7–0 vote.
On personnel, the board approved the hire of Julie Mehta as Milan High School social worker for the 2026–27 school year. Superintendent McMahon described Mehta as a candidate with two years of experience who previously worked in contractor roles and will move into a direct-hire position under the MEA contract.
Why it matters: Depository and legal-counsel designations set where district funds are held and who can sign accounts; delegate appointments set representation to the statewide school-board association. The social-worker hire fills a district position and was approved following standard hiring procedures described by the superintendent.
Votes: All motions reported at the meeting passed unanimously, 7–0.
Next steps: The superintendent asked that approved documents be passed to district staff for processing and noted the superintendent’s office will implement the appointments and account-authority changes.
