Commission prioritizes short-term rental ordinance; landscape buffering to be folded into Comprehensive Plan update

During the Aug. 26 meeting, Regional Planner Amanda Kerns updated the commission on three pending policy efforts: a landscape and buffering ordinance, a short-term rental ordinance, and screening options along I-81.
Chairman Mark Klein recommended incorporating the landscape and buffering ordinance task into the upcoming Comprehensive Plan update; commissioners agreed. Ms. Kerns and staff agreed to include screening requirements for future development in the Comprehensive Plan Update and to continue seeking options to address existing screening needs along I-81.
Vice Chair Rebecca Anderson said the I-81 screening issue is "two-fold," involving repair of existing screening and planning screening standards for future development. Commissioners and staff agreed the short-term rental ordinance is a more pressing issue and directed staff to review the draft ordinance and align it with recently adopted state laws.
