Planning commission approves scope for Comprehensive Plan update, to circulate to consultants

The Middletown Planning Commission voted unanimously on Aug. 26 to approve a staff-revised scope of work for the town’s Comprehensive Plan update and to distribute the scope to Berkley Group, EPR-pc, and Summit Design for procurement consideration.
Commissioner Angela Morelock summarized the Plan Review Committee’s recent meeting and described the staff-recommended edits: incorporate implementation strategies directly into the Comprehensive Plan instead of creating a separate strategic document, conduct the zoning audit after the updated plan is adopted, and maintain flexibility in project timelines. Staff also noted access to NSVRC’s on-call consulting program and the firms available through that contract for procurement.
Chairman Mark Klein called for the motion to approve the scope with staff changes; Vice Chair Rebecca Anderson moved, and Commissioner Morelock seconded. All commissioners present voted in favor.
Chairman Klein also asked the Plan Review Committee to begin reviewing the Capital Improvements Program; staff agreed to email committee members and schedule a meeting to start the review in September.
