The Town of Middletown Planning Commission reviewed the final site plan for a proposed Wawa convenience store and fuel station during its Aug. 26 meeting. Regional Planner Amanda Kerns said the plan conforms to the requirements of Zoning Ordinance 17-21(G) and that the town would approve the site plan once required VDOT approvals are received, which staff expected by Sept. 5.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the submission and site details. Chairman Mark Klein requested that staff ask the developer to consider installing a sign shorter than the 25-foot maximum allowed under the ordinance.
Ms. Kerns said staff would proceed with the town’s administrative approval once VDOT’s sign and access approvals are filed. The commission did not take a formal vote on the site plan during the meeting; the approval was described as contingent on those external approvals.
The next procedural step is for the developer to obtain the VDOT approvals; staff indicated those were expected by Sept. 5 and that they would notify the commission once the approvals were received.
