Salem Township supervisors advertise 2025 budget, solicit auditor and approve several contracts and donations

Salem Township supervisors voted unanimously Nov. 20 to advertise the township’s proposed 2025 budget, solicit quotes for a certified public accountant to replace elected auditors for the 2024 fiscal audit, and authorize several insurance and service agreements and community disbursements.
The board preliminarily approved and authorized advertisement of the 2025 Proposed Budget, with final adoption scheduled for the Board of Supervisors public meeting on Dec. 18, 2024. Supervisor Kerry Jobe made the motion and Supervisor Ken Trumbetta seconded it; Supervisors Bob Zundel, Trumbetta and Jobe voted in favor.
The board also voted to solicit quotes prior to Dec. 9, 2024, to appoint a certified public accountant or firm to conduct the township’s 2024 fiscal year audit and to make that appointment at the Jan. 6, 2025 reorganization meeting. Ken Trumbetta moved the auditor solicitation motion; Kerry Jobe seconded.
On personnel benefits and contracts, supervisors authorized execution of the 2024–25 renewal with UPMC Health Plan (the board previously approved an 8.4% premium increase), approved an updated service agreement with Definiti effective Jan. 1, 2025, and joined the PA Townships Health Insurance Cooperative Trust for dental coverage (annual dental premium rising from $10,770.10 to $11,308.30). Each motion passed unanimously.
The board approved a $1,000 donation to Mutual Aid Emergency Medical Services after hearing that the organization faces low reimbursement rates (Jobe said their collection rate from insurers is about 50–60% and rates rose roughly 17% last year). Supervisors also approved a $60,000 General Fund disbursement to be split equally between Forbes Road Volunteer Fire Department and Slickville Volunteer Fire Department; Jobe said the disbursement is in addition to the 1% fire tax and is being paid without increasing taxes.
Other routine financial action included approval of November expenditures totaling $120,116.81 across township funds and a $42.05 reimbursement to Kepple Farm Properties for a county tax adjustment.
The board set a deadline to solicit audit quotes and confirmed the schedule for final budget action. The next regular meeting is Dec. 18, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Salem Township Municipal Building.
