Township supervisors discussed a feasibility study developed with the Upper-Township Municipal Authority (UTMA) and engineer LSSE examining options to extend sewer service to Forbes Road, Coal Hollow, Hannastown, Totteridge, Crabtree and parts of adjacent Hempfield and Unity townships. Kerry Jobe summarized five project options; some options include Totteridge and some do not, and some add areas of Hempfield.
The study's cost estimates show the project would not be financially feasible without approximately $18 million in grants (a 50% grant match in the study), which would lower capital burden and result in an estimated average monthly sewer bill of about $90 per month. The board made copies of the study available to interested residents and scheduled a meeting with UTMA, Salem and Hempfield for Jan. 23, 2025 to discuss next steps and grant strategies.
