Salem Township awards $913,020 contract for SR 22 signal upgrades, tables replacement of two mast arms

Salem Township on Dec. 18 awarded Brodner Technical Services, Inc. the contract to perform traffic-signal safety modifications and upgrades at six signalized intersections along State Route 22 and to install one flashing school-zone device along State Route 119. The board recorded the low base bid from Brodner at $853,998.42; with alternates the total held for award was reported and the board recorded the award at $913,020.06.
Bids opened at a special advertised meeting on Dec. 17 and were presented to the board, which voted unanimously to award the work to Brodner. Two alternate bids to replace two damaged mast arms were received; the board tabled the award of the alternate work after the township traffic engineer reviewed the damage and advised that replacement may not be necessary and that wiring lengths could complicate a replacement.
Resident Eric Hageder asked about the cause of the mast-arm damage and who would pay for future repairs; Board member Ken Trumbetta noted the damage at Hornock Drive and at the site near Allegheny Paper Shredders resulted from accidents and said the township may not have a responsible party identified in those instances. The contract award motion was moved and seconded as recorded by the board and passed unanimously.
