Parks board approves Memorial Park wayfinding signs with QR-code map

The Soldotna Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted July 10 to approve a signage project for Memorial Park that staff said is intended to help visitors locate burial plots after several recent park expansions. The board’s vote came after a staff presentation describing the proposed fixtures and a short discussion.
Joel, the city’s Parks and Recreation director, told the board the signs would be "a 7 foot tall metal structure with a bench and then a map and a QR code" linking to the city-managed plot map. He said the city expects to begin with roughly three signs and that the capital budget includes funds to produce them.
Board members asked whether signs would be produced by city crews and whether a physical on-site map would be practical. Joel said the maintenance department would produce the metal signs and that a live online map accessible by QR code is preferable because the cemetery’s records change frequently. "The QR code will just take you to that map, that's managed by the city on our website," he said.
A board member moved to approve the Memorial Park signage project (action item 5.1); another seconded, and the chair conducted a roll-call vote. The chair announced the motion passed. Staff said the program is intended to scale with future park expansions.
The board did not set installation dates in the meeting; staff indicated work will proceed as budget and maintenance schedules allow and that future meetings will include implementation details.
