FAA notifies Soldotna of planned NDB and VOR procedure retirements; commission may comment

The Soldotna Airport Commission heard a notification from the airport manager that the Federal Aviation Administration has identified two navigation aids/procedures for potential retirement.
The airport manager said the FAA contacted the city and indicated the nondirectional beacon (NDB) is scheduled for decommissioning in October 2025 and that the related VOR approach procedure (listed in FAA materials as RPASXVORA) was flagged for retirement under FAA retirement criteria. "It's scheduled for decommissioning in October 2025," the manager said.
The manager said he requested an extension to the FAA comment window until this meeting so the commission could provide input; FAA accommodated that request. He also said he had confirmed with FAA that the agency had no objections provided the retirements would not interfere with airport operations or improvements.
The manager noted the U.S. Army representative for the FAA Western Service Area submitted comments urging retention of the VOR procedure, and he offered to relay any concerns or comments the commission wishes to submit to the FAA.
No formal motion or vote occurred at the June 19 meeting. The manager said he could place an action item on a future agenda if the commission wants to seek a formal council or commission response to the FAA.
The commission was given the opportunity to ask questions but recorded no dissenting votes or formal direction at this session.
