The Ann Arbor Farmers Market advisory committee approved two vendor seniority transfers at its July 16 meeting. Committee members voted to accept a sale-based transfer for the Mind Your Beeswax stall and to approve a bereavement-based transfer for the Parker family, allowing both vendors to retain annual-vendor status and their positions on the market seniority list.
Stephanie, a market staff member who presented both items, said the Mind Your Beeswax transfer reflects a straightforward sale: "She has been able to finalize that" sale to a long-time employee, which would let the buyer keep the seller's annual status and seniority. Staff provided the committee with the transfer application and recommended approval.
On the Parker family request, staff described a bereavement situation in which a vendor who had been active at the market passed away last year. The vendor's sister, Irene, and a family member sought to preserve the family's stall through the transfer process but faced technology barriers and missed the original application timeline. Stephanie said staff extended the deadline to Aug. 1 to accommodate the family's limited email access and offered assistance with the paperwork. After members discussed the family's long association with the market and the planned continuity of product types, the committee moved and approved the transfer.
Both motions were moved, seconded and passed by voice vote. The committee did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript; staff said they will file the approved transfer documentation for both items and notify the applicants once paperwork is complete.
Next steps: staff will add the approved transfers to vendor records, update seniority lists, and file the applications; the Parker family application remains due by Aug. 1 for final paperwork completion.
