Commissioners told the Kingston Historical Commission they must spend remaining fiscal-year 2026 funds soon and discussed buying supplies for the Old Burying Ground, including gravestone cleaner and respirators.
John Bartlett said the commission already has about 7.5 gallons of cleaner and reviewed pricing options: one gallon at $46; two gallons at $91; and a package of one gallon plus two quarts and two spray bottles at $79. He said the remaining purchase needed is N95 masks, estimated at about $50 for a pack of 15. Bartlett emphasized the importance of respiratory protection, citing black mold on some stones. Potential dates for hands-on gravestone-cleaning training were proposed: April 25, May 16 and May 17.
Members also discussed stump-removal products and noted they can be expensive; Jim McKenna will revisit his prior cost notes. John Bartlett reported he had contacted scout leaders about potential Eagle Scout projects to assist with OBG cleanup, and the commission discussed whether the BSA council would consider that work an Eagle project. The commission discussed hiring the same contractor who performed recent tree removal for cabling the linden tree and agreed to finalize purchases before the fiscal year ends.
