The POLYTECH School District Board of Education voted unanimously on June 11 to approve FY27 tax rates and to forward tax warrants to county officials.
Nicholas Johnson told the board the district will forward tax warrants pending county approval and reported that the Kent County rate will increase from 0.0284 to 0.0292 next year. He said the New Castle County rate will rise from 0.0228 to 0.0292 as a result of a county reassessment. Johnson also noted the district had collected ‘‘just over 97% of what we anticipate collecting for the year’’ and ‘‘just over 100% of anticipated current expense tax,’’ and that total expenditures and encumbrances stood at $30.9 million compared with $29.8 million at the same time last year, citing salary increases and a three-pay month as drivers of the difference.
The board approved the FY27 tax rates on a motion by Carolyn Forbes, seconded by Sandy Walls, by a unanimous vote. Board members were informed that the tax warrants will be submitted to the counties for processing.
The board took no action on the previously scheduled out-of-state/overnight travel item; it had been removed from the agenda prior to the meeting.
The board’s approval completes the district step in setting tax paperwork for FY27; final tax bills and collection depend on county processing and any reassessment appeals.
