Declan Mangan, a Scout with Troop 49, presented an Eagle Scout project to the Kingston Historical Commission on May 19, 2026, that would organize a cleanup of the OBG, landscape the Revolutionary War monument and install a reflection bench on the green.
Mangan said the proposal calls for planting perennials, adding mulch and a walkway, and placing the bench in the front corner of the green. He estimated the project budget at approximately $600 and said he would self-fund, fundraise, or pursue donations. He noted the Kingston Garden Club may donate plants and that he has leads on suppliers who sometimes provide mulch and materials at reduced cost.
Commission members recorded a timeline for work: a cleanup weekend beginning June 6 with an anticipated 6–12 troop members to help assemble debris piles the highway department could collect, and a planned dedication of the renovated Revolutionary War monument on June 27 at 1:00 PM.
The commission also recorded related OBG maintenance items on the agenda, including purchasing supplies to treat a stump and considering cabling for a linden tree. Minutes do not attribute those maintenance decisions to a single member.
Next steps: Mangan will proceed with fundraising and logistics; the commission will coordinate with the highway department for debris removal and review any supply purchases at upcoming meetings.
