Pink House renovation on track for March budget; structural fixes and accessibility remain challenges

Dwayne Nitz, the Pink House project manager, gave a project update at the March 3 Clifton Town Council meeting, saying design work was productive and a structural investigation by Mr. Jarrendt is complete.
Nitz said procurement is underway for concrete and roofing and that finishes will go to bid later in the week. He told council the project is on track to present a full project budget by the end of March.
The structural review found that floor joists are not currently tied to wall studs. Nitz said the plan is to replace the joists, raise them by 3.5 inches and tie them into studs and the floor, which creates a porch-transition step and may require repouring the porch. He warned that addressing underlying tile or subfloor issues could increase costs beyond initial estimates.
Citizen Geri Yantis raised accessibility concerns; Nitz said meeting full ADA requirements—such as elevator access to upper floors—would be challenging at the site, and parking constraints also complicate accessibility improvements. Mayor Lynn Screen said the Town should pay attention to access so citizens can use the building.
Council discussed budget authority and public hearings required for certain changes. Nitz indicated the Town will present a full budget for council review by the end of March and that any significant legal or ordinance work related to preservation or accessibility would involve the Town Attorney.
