Colton Joint Unified board denies readmission for seven expelled students, approves readmission for 15 others

After returning from closed session Thursday evening, the Colton Joint Unified School District board announced two separate student‑discipline decisions: denial of readmission for seven students and approval of readmission for 15 students who completed required rehabilitation plans.

On the denial, the board stated the seven cases were reviewed by student‑services administrators and found not to have completed the rehabilitation plans previously directed by the board. The superintendent’s office cited California Education Code provisions regarding expulsions and readmissions during the staff report. A motion by board member Dan Flores, seconded by Israel Fuentes, to deny readmission of the seven students carried 7–0. The board then read the student ID numbers into the record.

On the readmission approvals, staff reported 15 expelled students had completed their required plans of rehabilitation and were eligible for return. A motion by Israel Fuentes, seconded by Thoring Ojeda, to approve those readmissions carried 7–0; the board read the listed student ID numbers on the record.

The board did not discuss student names in open session; all references were to student ID numbers as reflected in the agenda packet and heard on the record. The district cited Education Code procedures in place for both denial and approval, and staff said each case was reviewed by student‑services administrators prior to the board’s closed‑session actions.

The board also approved a personnel item and adjourned at 9:29 p.m.
