The Harlingen City Commission voted unanimously to appoint Marie Lial as general manager of the Harlingen Waterworks System after the board of trustees recommended her for the position.
Cassandra Mata, representing the Waterworks board, presented the recommendation and described Lial’s qualifications. Commissioner Mesmer moved to approve the appointment; the motion was seconded and carried without opposition.
Marie Lial thanked the commission and said Harlingen has played an important role in her career. “I look forward to working with the waterworks board, the city commission, the city leadership, our employees, and the residents of this community,” Lial said. Commissioners praised her experience; staff noted her start date will be in the third week of September.
The commission also approved an application for financial assistance from the Texas Water Development Board intended to fund priority water capital improvements and appointed the authorized representative for Harlingen Waterworks.
