At the July 14, 2025 Mapleton School Board meeting, Superintendent Jenna Farkas presented bids for school buses and the board discussed multiple options for student transportation, ultimately tabling a final procurement decision for a future meeting.
Board member Nathan Lotvedt requested bids for a minibus to inform budgeting. Superintendent Farkas told the board she had collected several vendor quotes: Ford/Chevy at $115,000, IC at $129,000, and a 2025 Ford E450 Collins 14‑passenger at $110,000. The board discussed operational constraints that prevent extending routes earlier or later, whether to switch back to a gas bus to accommodate more students, and the possibility of contracting transportation to a third‑party provider.
Board members did not vote to purchase a vehicle at the meeting. Staff were directed to gather additional information and present bids and options at a subsequent meeting so the board can evaluate cost, capacity and contracting tradeoffs before authorizing a purchase or service contract.
Superintendent Farkas and Business Manager Meghan McGarry will continue to research costs and contracting options and report back to the board at a future meeting; no procurement contract was authorized July 14.
