Madelia council advertises wastewater bid, schedules July 27 public hearings and approves $953,115 pay request

The council approved Resolution 2026-11 to advertise the wastewater enforcement project and set the bid opening for Aug. 13, with the item slated to return to council on Aug. 24. ‘‘All in favor, say aye,’’ the Chair said before announcing, ‘‘Motion carried.’’ Council discussion noted the grant relationship to the project and that the city was seeking to get the work bid and awarded promptly.
Councilors also approved Resolution 2026-12, which calls a public hearing on the hospital loading matter for July 27, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The council scheduled two other public hearings for the same day: one for Tom Gordon Jacobs (scheduled around 5:00–5:30 p.m., ultimately recorded for 5:30 p.m.) and one for Will Davis at 5:15 p.m. The Chair moved the scheduling motions and the council approved them by voice vote.
On contracting matters, the council approved pay request No. 10 to GM Contracting Inc. for $953,115.14. Staff reported partial payments had been received and that the project should be on schedule within about two weeks. The Chair moved to approve the pay request and the motion passed by voice vote.
The council also voted to accept a DMVG estimate of $180,400 for construction of a basketball and volleyball court; the Chair moved and the motion carried.
Separately, members discussed and approved forming a hospital cost committee (not a commission) to review hospital-related issues, with the Chair noting a committee avoids the ordinance process that a commission would require.
No citizens spoke during the citizens communications portion of the meeting. The meeting included brief logistical announcements and a reminder that two council seats and the mayoral position are up this year. The council recorded next procedural steps: bid opening Aug. 13 for the wastewater project and council consideration of that item on Aug. 24; the July 27 public hearings will take place as scheduled.
