The Randleman Board of Aldermen on April 8 authorized staff to begin a Request for Qualifications to solicit design/build firms to study site feasibility and prepare plans for a new fire station and related design work. Fire Chief Brian Causey requested the RFQ, and Mayor Betts read the chief's letter; the board approved proceeding under N.C.G.S. 143-128.1A to use design-build procurement.
The board considered paving bids for a list of town streets and received three offers: P & S Grading ($220,650.00), Waugh Asphalt, Inc. ($246,370.00), and Ivey’s Trucking & Paving, Inc. ($252,199.00). After confirming all bidders met city specifications, the board approved awarding the paving contract to the lowest responsible bidder, P & S Grading. Public Works Director Brian Crawford said the work is expected to be completed by June 1, 2025, weather permitting.
The board also unanimously approved a Memorandum of Understanding from the Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority (PTRWA) to participate in a feasibility evaluation regarding Asheboro joining the Authority. Finance Director Elizabeth Sechriest presented the MOU and supporting packet documents.
Why it matters: The RFQ and procurement actions move forward capital projects and infrastructure work that affect public safety response and road conditions. The MOU signals regional planning cooperation on water governance matters.
The board approved the RFQ, the paving contract award, and the PTRWA MOU by unanimous votes at the meeting.
