Southington council hears America250, Apple Harvest and open‑space updates

Southington — At the July 13 meeting the council received several community and committee updates, including events tied to the America250 observance, planning for the Apple Harvest Festival and the status of open‑space projects.
Victoria Triano, introduced by the chair as a pastor and former council chairwoman, said America250 programming continues through July with a partnership with Hartford HealthCare for the Bradley Memorial Campus opening and other community giveaways. Triano said the group will also help with Apple Harvest Festival planning in August.
Open‑space chair Jen said the Pleasant Street barn is essentially complete but requires exterior leveling and coordination with the high school for fill material; grant discussions continue about adding paddocks. She also reported a stolen or removed open‑space sign on School Street was quickly replaced by town staff.
Apple Harvest Festival committee lead Chris reported 24 arts-and-crafts vendors so far, booth‑fee revenue of about $80,000, $20,100 in collected sponsorships with an additional $15,000 pledged but not yet deposited, and an awarded busing contract to long‑time partner NBT. The committee said it does not plan to increase emergency services for the festival beyond prior years.
Councilmembers encouraged residents to attend the Italian American Festival July 24–26 and thanked volunteers and agencies that supported recent community events.
