Mavis Dillon, president of the Western Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, updated the Mayodan Town Council on Chamber activities. She said Walmart has rejoined the Chamber, membership increased (32 new members this year vs. 25 last year), and the Chamber hired Maria Bridges to assist with website management and marketing.
Dillon announced the Chamber’s annual dinner on April 16 at White Oak Terrace (limited seating) and promoted a countywide chili cook-off with a $25 registration fee and a $100 cash prize for the winner. She described plans to form a Western Rockingham Alliance nonprofit under the Chamber’s umbrella to pursue grants, corporate partnerships and volunteer-led community projects for Madison, Mayodan and Stoneville. Dillon said the Alliance will focus on beautification, revitalization and quality-of-life improvements and intends to establish a full board with staggered terms.
She also discussed a youth leadership program in partnership with local schools that would include industry tours and job-shadowing opportunities. Dillon thanked the Mayor, staff and departments for ongoing support and noted continued collaboration with local businesses and the fire department.
