Applicant Alyssa Malouf told the commission she wants a lightweight, dimensional "finger pointing sign directing people upstairs to my upstairs business." Commissioners asked about material and illumination; Malouf said the sign would be fiberglass, lightweight and would not be lit.
Board members discussed whether approving a cartoonish or colorful element could set a precedent for other businesses. One commissioner said he did not want to see cartoon characters throughout the town; commissioners reiterated that approvals are handled on a case-by-case basis and that past approvals do not automatically create a standing entitlement for different future applicants.
The Chair moved to approve the HDC case as presented. The motion was seconded and the commission approved the directional sign by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
After approval members offered brief well-wishes to the applicant and the meeting proceeded to closing business.
