Aberdeen Board approves $84,836 insurance premium, authorizes payments to two officers

The Aberdeen Board of Aldermen on April 10 approved a $84,836 commercial insurance premium for the 2026–27 policy year and authorized payments to two police officers for three days’ suspension, the board recorded. Alderwoman Rhonda Moore moved to accept the insurance quote from The Policy Center, Inc., Jackson, Mississippi; Alderman Jeremy Belle seconded the motion and the members present voted to approve it.
The insurance covers the city’s commercial package for the term beginning April 1, 2026 and ending April 1, 2027 (Policy No. GPNU-PF-0010348-06). "A motion was made by Alderwoman Moore...accept and pay the insurance premium quote in the amount of $84,836.00 from The Policy Center, Inc., Jackson, MS for the City of Aberdeen 26/27 Commercial Package," the minutes record.
Alderman John Cain moved and Alderman Jeremy Belle seconded motions authorizing payment to Police Officer Chaz Thompson and to Police Officer Michael Crawford for the three days each was suspended during an investigation. The board’s roll-call vote listed Alderman Nicholas Holliday (participating by telephone), Alderwoman Rhonda Moore, Alderman Jeremy Belle (by telephone) and Alderman John Cain as voting "Aye." The minutes do not list dollar amounts for those payments.
The board also approved payment of the City of Aberdeen American Express corporate card for the statement closing April 2, 2026, in the amount of $6,988.57 after a motion by Alderman Cain seconded by Alderman Belle.
Separately, Alderman John Cain asked that all incoming mail delivered to the city by the U.S. Postal Service, FedEx, UPS and other carriers be stamped and verified with "Received" and the delivery date to improve tracking. The board then voted to adjourn the special called meeting until the regular Board meeting on April 21, 2026.
Mayor Johnny D. Stevens presided. City Clerk Melissa Moore and City Attorney Walter Zinn, Jr. were listed as present (Zinn participated via telephone). The minutes note that Alderman James Ivory was not present for the meeting.
