Stevens told the Aberdeen Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen on Feb. 17 that the Mississippi Department of Transportation Ports & Waterways Division has awarded the city a $700,000 SMIF 2026 Port Grant to support Port of Aberdeen work. Stevens also reminded the board about a Port of Aberdeen Open‑House and Stakeholder Alignment Session hosted by District 22 Representative Justin Crosby on Feb. 18.
District 22 Representative Justin Crosby briefed the board on grant programs and urged municipal officials to apply in a timely manner for available funding. Crosby said the session is intended to align stakeholders and highlight immediate opportunities tied to the port grant announcement.
Representatives of Prince Oil Company reported that a proposed truck‑stop project remains “hopeful” but has been delayed. Eric B. Prince said the company is awaiting completion of a Phase 2 environmental site analysis before moving forward; no contract or development timeline was finalized at the meeting.
City Attorney Walter H. Zinn, Jr. indicated the City’s Municipal Water System Policies and the Water System Emergency Response Plan require corrections before the board can adopt them, signaling additional administrative steps remain before related policy changes take effect.
The board did not take a formal vote specifically on port expenditures during the meeting; next steps identified were stakeholder engagement at the open‑house and follow-up on required plan revisions. The open‑house was scheduled to begin Feb. 18 at 9:00 a.m.
