Mayor Marks updates council on Strain Road drainage, Brawley project and community events

The mayor added crews have done work on the east side of Strain Road and that some improvements are ongoing.
Marks said the city acquired property from the Bridgeforth family to advance a project on Brawley Boulevard and Strain Road near the Hobby Lobby Academy site. He said tree-cutting and dirt-moving equipment were on Brawley as the project began and that the city is continuing coordination with the Department of Transportation; a fuller update is expected Aug. 10.
Councilman Lucas also raised a roadside-safety maintenance issue: he thanked the city for cutting grass along Highway 72 near Creek Side Apartments and urged continued mowing because tall grass on hills reduces visibility for drivers.
Marks noted community activity downtown: the film production of "Houdini" wrapped up after about two weeks and a temporary "magic store" set was installed for the movie; he emphasized the set is not permanent and said residents had received the production positively. He also reminded residents that school starts Aug. 5 and mentioned the back-to-school sales tax holiday this weekend.
The council then moved to routine business and vote items; no public comments on these updates are recorded in the transcript.
