The Mayodan Town Council unanimously approved a resolution on Feb. 9 endorsing an application to the Land and Water Fund (LWF) for a $75,000 planning grant to evaluate long-term options for the Mayo River, including water-supply infrastructure, dam-removal alternatives and river restoration concepts.
Staff presented the grant structure: the Town would request $56,250 from LWF and provide a required municipal match of $18,750. Councilmember Doug Cardwell moved to approve the resolution of endorsement; Councilmember Buck Shelton seconded and the motion carried with Councilmembers Cardwell, Letitia Goard, John Miller and Shelton voting aye.
Council discussed the project scope and its relationship to ongoing river-restoration efforts and potential implications for the Town’s water intake; staff noted the grant would support planning and evaluation rather than authorize construction or removal activity. No further conditions were added in the endorsement vote.
