Sen. Phil Berger urges Mayodan to submit legislative needs as short session nears

Sen. Phil Berger, President Pro Tempore of the North Carolina Senate, spoke to the Mayodan Town Council during the public comment portion of its Jan. 12 meeting, urging town leaders to send any legislative priorities to the Town Attorney so his office can assist ahead of the legislature’s short session.
Berger said the State "has not adopted what he would consider a traditional budget for the current fiscal year," and attributed the situation in part to differences between House and Senate leadership and scheduled tax reductions set to take place over coming years. He said the General Assembly is moving toward a short session expected to begin in April and warned that filing deadlines "come and go quickly." The senator offered the assistance of his office and his chief of staff and said his office distributes a weekly newsletter that could carry Town information.
Berger also noted his prior work for Mayodan, saying he previously served as the town's attorney, and highlighted partnerships that have supported local infrastructure improvements. He encouraged ongoing communication with his office to pursue projects that could benefit Mayodan residents.
The public comment concluded without a formal vote; councilmembers did not take immediate action during the meeting on items raised by the senator.
