Speakers at the meeting questioned whether the town had explored lower‑cost vendors, state purchasing options or Maryland Correctional Enterprises. Several residents and some council members said they were uneasy about the price given other infrastructure needs such as stormwater repairs. One resident referenced chairs that had been sold from the old chamber and urged reusing salvageable items; staff said they performed an inventory and determined many items were not reusable or would not fit the renovated spaces.
Proponents said the recommended package emphasizes ergonomics, a long warranty on seating (15 years on some chairs), cohesive design and included installation and warranty service. The council also discussed directing some of the savings for improved audiovisual equipment in the chambers, and staff said they would refine the AV alternate and bring back specific pricing.
After extended public comment and council debate, the body voted unanimously to table motion 2026-41 and requested additional pricing alternatives and a narrower, prioritized package to review at the next meeting.
