Mineral planning commission urges council to prioritize water and sewer, Whitlock Field improvements

Speakers described cracked water lines and the need for reserve drain-field capacity for older homes; commissioners said such infrastructure work should be central to the CIP because failures would have broad community impacts. "The highest priority of capital expenditures for the town is most likely the water and sewer system," one commissioner said during discussion.
As secondary priorities, commissioners listed park-site, market and Whitlock Field improvements: adding steps for safer access, replacing or adding picnic tables, addressing the Whitlock Field roof and mural touch-ups, and preparing cost estimates for larger building repairs. Several commissioners recommended starting with low-cost, high-visibility projects that can be accomplished without major capital outlays while staff work on design and costing for larger projects.
The planning commission voted to forward their prioritized recommendations to the council and asked committees or staff to gather quotes and designs to inform the council's budget deliberations.
Next steps: The planning commission will prepare a short list of recommended CIP priorities and suggested low-cost items and ask the council to consider them as it finalizes the next budget cycle.
