Village of Sanford adopts 2026–27 budget, approves kayak launch and park fixes

The Village of Sanford board convened a special meeting on June 29 and approved several budget and park measures, voting unanimously on each item. The five members present — Marcus Thrush, Don Whaley, Carl Hamann, Leah Ziems and Village President Dolores Porte — approved a 2025–26 Amendment No. 1 and adopted the proposed 2026–27 budget.
Treasurer Travis Raymond presented the treasurer’s report. The board also approved a $2,649.90 reimbursement to Raymond for ten picnic tables he bought directly from a supplier, after a motion by Marcus Thrush and a second from Don Whaley.
The board approved a request from Water District #1 to remove inactive water-service connections in Village Park. Council member Leah Ziems moved the measure, which Marcus Thrush seconded; the vote was recorded as five yeas and no nays.
On park improvements, the board authorized $45,403.71 for a kayak launch to be installed at the end of Cedar Street, accepted the bid from Lakeside Services, and approved pursuing a Town Grant for $5,000 while allocating $7,125.26 from the Ron Lowry Foundation toward the project. Marcus Thrush made the motion and Leah Ziems seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting closed with routine council comments and adjourned at 7:35 p.m. No public speakers addressed the board during the public-comment period; a guest, Jesse Brand, was noted as attending.
