Sanford council keeps millage at 2 mills, approves bills, purchases and public-safety allocation

The Village of Sanford council on June 8 voted unanimously to keep its 2026 millage request at 2 mills and approved routine financial actions and local purchases.
Marcus Thrush moved to keep the millage request at 2 mills; Leah Ziems seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The council also voted to approve payment of bills totaling $30,451.10 (motion by Marcus Thrush, seconded by Carl Hamann) and accepted the May 11, 2026 minutes (motion by Don Whaley, seconded by Carl Hamann).
Council approved the purchase of eight folding picnic tables for village parks (motion by Marcus Thrush, seconded by Leah Ziems). The Sanford Area Chamber reported auction proceeds of $12,021, with planned distributions of $4,007 to the Sanford Santa House, $4,007 to the Sanford Lake Association fireworks and $1,000 to the Second Sunday Concert Series.
The village reported receipt of $2,365 in Public Safety Revenue Sharing. By motion of Marcus Thrush and second by Don Whaley, council unanimously directed that 75 percent ($1,773.75) be sent to the Midland County Sheriff Department and 25 percent ($591.25) to the Jerome Township Fire Department, consistent with program rules described at the meeting.
No dissenting votes were recorded on any of the finance items during the session.
