Sand Lake council posts treasurer, hires DPW worker and approves retroactive pay increase

The Village of Sand Lake voted May 18 to move forward on several staffing actions, approving a job posting for a part-time treasurer, hiring a new Department of Public Works worker and authorizing a retroactive cost-of-living increase for the current DPW employee.

The council approved posting the treasurer position at $20.00 per hour for 20 hours per week following a motion by Helton supported by VanEtten; the motion carried. Later the council approved hiring a DPW worker with water and sewer licenses at $22.50 per hour for 30 hours per week (motion by VanEtten, supported by Johnson), and separately approved a 2.8% cost-of-living wage increase for current DPW worker Tim Kline, retroactive to April 1, 2026 (motion by Helton, supported by Stieg); both motions carried.

The staffing moves were taken as part of unfinished business during the meeting. The council also tabled consideration of the zoning administrator position until the next meeting (motion by VanEtten, supported by Johnson). No vote tallies were recorded in the meeting minutes beyond “motion carries.”

Resident Samantha Gore raised staffing-related questions during public comment, asking whether insurance rules allow hiring younger workers for DPW roles. The council did not provide a policy decision during the meeting.
