Mercer council creates subcommittee to explore community center funding

Council members described the subcommittee’s purpose as exploring funding opportunities for a community center and the possibility of locating city hall in a new building. Gary Volochenko argued that “if the city is going to be involved, we should build a building so we can have the city hall in the new community center,” framing the discussion about combining facilities.
The subcommittee members named in the motion are Willa Murray, Karen Zinke, Randy Zinke, Barb Stute and Cayce Stute. Mayor Lori Stute invited other residents interested in joining to notify the board.
The council did not set a timeline or budget for the subcommittee’s work during the meeting. The next steps recorded were the formal creation of the group and an open invitation for additional volunteers.
