Resident says Mercer audits delinquent since 2018; auditor says she is working with State Auditor's Office

Kathy Schon told the City of Mercer council on Jan. 16 that the North Dakota State Audit website lists the city as delinquent on audits dating to 2018 and that the 2023 audit is now listed as delinquent. "Anyone can look under the North Dakota State Audit and go to the City of Mercer. Under this website it shows the City of Mercer has been delinquent since 2018 and now 2023 is delinquent," Schon said.
Tonya Wellington, the city auditor, said the State Auditor's Office contacted her about the 2018 audit and that she has been locating and submitting records to address outstanding items. Wellington said she is working with the state office to find information for the audits that have not been completed.
Council members took no formal action at the meeting to set an immediate resolution timeline; Wellington said she expects additional follow-up with the State Auditor's Office and that the council will be updated as records are submitted.
