Orford fire and police chiefs report call volumes and emergency planning updates

Fire Chief Stephen Sanborn told the Selectboard that Orford’s Fire Department responded to 14 calls in February — 11 medical responses, one motor vehicle crash, one odor investigation and one chimney fire. Sanborn said training included in‑service sessions on new equipment and winter rescue, and that the new fire truck body is mounted on the chassis with the light package in and partially installed.
Police Chief Jason Bachus reported 91 calls for service during February, including one theft, one fraud, one missing person, two motor vehicle collisions and two animal complaints; 46 vehicle stops produced seven summonses. Bachus said two new criminal investigations arose from recent activities. He also advised the board that, as reported to him, State of New Hampshire policy currently prohibits inspection stations from issuing vehicle inspections.
Bachus said he has begun updating the town’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and is exploring potential grant opportunities to address emergency, safety and security needs for both the town Emergency Management Director functions and for Rivendell Academy. He added that the department is conducting an audit of NCIC and NICS compliance to ensure proper and legal access to criminal justice information.
The Selectboard took no formal action on these reports beyond recording them and assigning administrative follow‑up in other agenda items. The minutes note no public comments on the reports.
