Orford Selectboard unanimously appoints town officers and sets follow-up tasks after Town Meeting

Selectboard Chair Kevin Follensbee and fellow members Charles Smith Jr. and Larry Taylor unanimously approved a slate of town appointments at the board’s March 11, 2026 meeting.
The board voted 3–0 to appoint Tim Greene of Roberts & Greene as Town Auditor, Stephen Sanborn as Orford Fire Chief, Jason Bachus as Orford Police Chief, and Theodore Nutter as Road Agent. The board also confirmed a number of committee and officer appointments: members of the Niles Fund Committee (Jennifer Tilden, Ann Green, Ruth Hook, Melinda Ricker and Dave Coker); William Wilson as Tree Warden; Shawn Washburn to the Zoning Board of Adjustment for Flood Plains; Lisa Camarra, Eva Daniels, Vanessa Desimone and Susan Hinchliffe as Inspectors of Elections; Bob Hedges as a Conservation Commissioner and John Miller as an alternate; Road Committee members Michael Wright, Sean Garran and David Smith; and Bartlett Harwood III as an alternate Trustee of the Trust Funds. Each appointment was made by motion of Kevin Follensbee and seconded by Larry Taylor, with the board recording each motion as Passed 3/0.
The board also confirmed internal liaisons: Follensbee will serve as liaison to all town departments as Selectboard Chair, while committee liaisons remain largely unchanged except that Follensbee will cover the Cemetery Commission and Charles Smith Jr. will cover the Conservation Commission.
Following review of Town Meeting results, the Selectboard assigned a series of follow‑up tasks. Esther Dobbins‑Marsh was directed to contact the bank regarding the Line of Credit contract and to work with the town assessor to update the Elderly Tax Credit and Service‑Related Disabled Veterans Tax Credit within the Avitar software. Road Agent Theodore Nutter was asked to solicit three estimates for paving and guardrail replacement and to begin construction of a grader cover with the road crew. Larry Taylor will obtain three estimates for walkway paving, and Charles Smith Jr. will coordinate with a contractor to remove lead paint from a small garage before it is dismantled. The Conservation Commissioners were asked to continue work on the High Bridge project.
The board reviewed and signed requests for use of town properties, including the Common for the Open‑Air Market, the softball field for the Women’s Softball League, and the pavilion for the Easter Sunrise Service hosted by the United Congregational Church. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
