Mike Bassingthwaite, the city engineer, told the council the contractor’s bid totaled $196,358.68 and that the city’s direct cost for construction would be about $37,445.60; he estimated engineering fees at roughly $30,000. Bassingthwaite said the contractor would like to begin work in mid- to late May.
Councilmember Jodi Ost moved to award the contract, and Curtis Anderson seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Mayor Terry Dusek indicated the city would fund its share of the work.
The project is intended to improve pedestrian access to the school by adding sidewalks between Main and Northview. The council recorded the formal contract award in its minutes; the contractor’s start window and the engineering estimate were provided during the engineer’s presentation.
The council did not identify additional grant or outside funding for this contract during the meeting. Next procedural steps include finalizing the contract and coordinating with the contractor on a start date and traffic controls.
